Your Business Needs A Blog

WordPress currently powers about 45% of all websites. That’s a big marketshare when you consider how many players are in the content management system (CMS) world. 

In fact, WordPress is robust enough to powerful enough for even companies like Sony Music, BBC, Microsoft News, Walt Disney Company, Toyota, AMC, Renaut Group, The White House, most Colleges and Universities just to give you an idea.

The balance of the worlds notable websites are divided between some power players including WIX, Shopify, Drupal, Squarespace, Weebly, Joomla and more… The small remaining fraction are mostly custom applications for companies like Esty, GrubHub, Facebook.

What many of you don’t realize is that the wide acceptance to this platform was prompted by its open source (non- proprietary) platform and it’s humble beginnings as a blogging platform where non-tech savvy people could find an easy way to share their thoughts and manage content on their site.

What I’m getting at here is to say that if you are not using the blog feature on your WordPress website you are probably missing out on one of its most powerful features.

Publishing content regularly is a great way to improve your website search engine ranking, share news, advice, recommendations, and increase your website’s engagement. 


You don’t have to be a slave to your blog like it seems with some of your social platforms, but adding content weekly, or monthly is a way to keep your website fresh and definitely attract a wider audience of site visitors than would normally visit through a simple organic search.

To illustrate, I’m going to use an example of a simple website in the fitness industry, specifically racquet sports in New York and Florida. 

Why would we post an article on intermittent fasting on their website if we are targeting tennis? Well, this topic is peripherally related to fitness activities, but is also very popular and trending right now. Even though Google indexing this post and it pulling in traffic for people out of market, these site visits still augment your overall web rankings and help you climb in searches for say “private tennis instruction in westchester county”. Get it?

That’s why a custom homebuilder might publish a blog post on the best HVAC providers in your area, especially in August. A lot of people are looking for these guys and a local builder probably knows the best ones in their area. Once indexed, an article like this would probably generate traffic for your site. Traffic is like publicity, all good. What about a local restaurant posting on the best free parking areas in their neighborhood. Again, useful.

So if you are doing a bunch of advertising and marketing but aren’t using the blog feature on your WordPress website then you may be stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.
